Bestiary
Beast. Gigantic fiend-like creatures who lurk in deserts and can control fire.
Beast. A huge bird that appears only at night with silvery wings. Feeds upon silver ore.
Beast. A creature with a human head and the body of a gigantic lion.
Beast. Hideous, female ogres who eat people, especially children.
Beast. Enormous tapirs who eat the dreams of humans. Nightmares are especially tasty to these creatures.
Unseelie. Old women with glowing red eyes in hollow sockets and long flowing white hair wearing a gray cloak over a green dress. Wails under the window of someone about to die.
Beast. Humanoid monster with a male and female head on a single neck and a female torso.
Beast. Giant snake who has venom so potent, anything it breathes on will perish.
Unseelie. Large women who hide in trees, forbidding humans from sleeping near it lest they get suffocated.
Beast. Giant humanoid creatures who are all male. The female equivalent is the leviathan.
Unseelie. Small old men with long, grisly hair, fiery red eyes, protruding teeth, and hideous talons on skinny fingers. They wear iron boots, a red blood-soaked cap, and carry a pikestaff. Lives in ruins of castles and peel towers, the sites of previous skirmishes and bloodshed.
Unseelie. Clammy, white, stinking, shapeless masses. Travels rural roads on especially dark or foggy nights to engulf travelers.
Seelie. Household spirits that appear as very small, shaggy humans wearing ragged brown clothes. Industrious and hard working, they also give their humans good fortune so long as they are given a treat of cake or cream in return. Offering to pay with new clothes is a grave insult.
Beast. An enormous, black boar-like creature that walks upright on its hind legs.
Beast. Aquatic cattle who have a single horn on their foreheads, similar to a unicorn.
Beast. A small, tree-dwellling creature who possesses a precious jewel in its forehead.
Beast. Monstrously large black cat with a white mark on its chest.
Beast. Humans with the bodies of horses. Kind and hospitable for the most part, they can also be quite aggressive when drunk due to their terrible tolerance for alcohol.
Beast. Large dogs with three heads.
Beast. Creatures with the bodies of goats, the tail of a snake, and the head of a lion.
Beast. A giant rooster with a serpent's tail and the wings of a dragon.
Seelie. A small rat-like marsupial with feathers that hides in houses and feeds upon human saliva, exhausting the person. Those who allow this creature to stay in their dwelling are gifted with good fortune.
Beast. Gigantic, one-eyed humanoids.
Unseelie. Invisible or able to take any shape they want, but they will always have slitted pupils. They inhabit deserts, isolated and ruined places, and remote islands.
Seelie. Little old gray-bearded, hairy men who lives in a house's stove. After everyone in the house has gone to bed, he clears unfinished work, leading to the house groaning and creaking in the middle of the night.
Beast. Type 1, commonly referred to as Wyverns: Gigantic winged lizards who breathe fire. Type 2, commonly referred to as Tatsu: Gigantic snakes with four limbs who control rain.
Seelie. Elemental spirits of trees, groves, and woods. Appear as beautiful women with wood-like skin and leaves for hair, but are also able to transform completely into trees.
Seelie. Humanoid but short, old and wisened. Found in caverns, caves, and underground. Typically found working as blacksmiths, jewelers, or alchemists.
Varied. A class of nature spirit. Sylphs, gnomes, satyrs, dryads, fiends and merms are all examples of elementals.
Seelie. Tall humanoids with sharp features. Typically found living in forests and woods.
Unseelie. Red-skinned humans with horns and a spaded tail. Fire Elementals. Powerful and mean.
Beast. A gold-feathered, crystal-eyed bird who eats apples.
Unseelie. The spirit of vengeance. They appear as snake-haired women wearing bloodied robes. Especially acts as retribution for those who remained unpunished by human law, but can also be summoned by someone angry enough about an injustice.
Beast. Human-sized aquatic dragon-like creatures who can spit acid.
Unseelie. Hideously ugly creatures who lust after humans. Often haunt sites of human tragedy to feed upon the recently dead.
Beast. Extremely large humanoids. In addition to the standard, non-elemental type, known as mountain giants, there are also fire giants, water giants, and frost giants. Fire giants have reddish skin and can control fire, though they cannot create it. Water giants have teal skin and can control water, though they cannot create it. Frost giants have bright blueish skin and can control ice, though they cannot create it.
Unseelie. Earth elementals. Malicious and greedy, they often mug humans traveling alone.
Unseelie. Similar in appearance to the brownie, these are their malicious cousins.
Beast. Artificial humanoid automatons made out of mud. Capable of completing small, delegated tasks.
Beast. Women with leathery wings on their backs, great fangs, and snakes instead of hair.
Beast. Hybrid monsters with the body of a lion, and the head, torso, and legs of an eagle.
Seelie. Huge, shaggy-haired black dogs, about the size of a calf, with enormous glowing, fiery red eyes. Typically encountered in places of transition such as lonely train tracks, ancient roads, crossroads, bridges, and near entrances.
Seelie. They transform and destroy human souls that terrorize the living.
Beast. Creatures who appear as vultures with the torso and head of a woman, with bronze or brass wings and talons. Able to control the winds.
Beast. A horse-headed serpentine fish.
Seelie. Fox spirits who have a tendency to transform into beautiful women and have a penchant for civil service.
Beast. White elephants with gigantic wings.
Beast. Panicky, dangerous animals. Delicious to a wide variety of creatures.
Beast. Large, dog-like creatures with serpentine heads. The heads grow back in multiples of three when cut off.
Unseelie. Childlike fiends who tend to be more mischevious than dangerous.
Beast. Ox-sized cats who act as protectors of feline life.
Unseelie. Bipedal kangaroo-like creature with a goat-like head, leathery bat-like wings, horns, small arms with clawed hands, legs with cloven hooves, and a pointed tail.
Beast. Incredibly large snakes with iridescent scales.
Unseelie. Attempts to entice humans and animals into the water where they live to devour them and drink their blood.
Seelie. A phenomenally tall, long-legged, hairy humanoid that sits in big trees and smokes cigars.
Unseelie. Powerful and beautiful black horses inhabiting deep pools of rivers and streams, preying on any humans it encounters.
Beast. Gigantic octopus or squid-like sea monster.
Seelie. Wife of the domovoi. Lives in the celler and makes sure the house is tended to.
Seelie. Creatures who inhabit caves and mines where they work. Have great skill with metalworking.
Seelie. Often appear as winged bulls. Protective spirits of gateways. Many of them act as Castle Faerie's guards.
Seelie. Spirits of place that bring good fortune to people living in that area. Offerings always sweeten the deal.
Seelie. Field spirit who protects and helps crops grow.
Seelie. Appears as a small, old man with a long beard with twinkling eyes and a pointed noise. Guarders of gold and shoemakers, leprechauns have a penchant for vanishing the instant anyone takes their eyes off them. Capturing one can lead to great wealth, but trying and failing to catch one leads to great misfortune.
Unseelie. Often appears as a man as tall as the trees in the forests they protect, with pallid flesh, green eyes, a green beard, and long straggly hair. They throw no shadow. They can make every sound of the forest, and can use this ability to lead humans off the path and confuse them.
Beast. Giant humanoid creatures who are all female. The male equivalent is the behemoth.
Unseelie. Spirits of the night who prey on sleeping men.
Beast. Lake monsters who appear as plesiosauruses. Tend to be herbivores, though they are more than capable of attacking swimmers.
Beast. Humans who can transform into bipedal wolf monsters.
Unseelie. Capable of severing its torso from its legs, this vampiric creature preys on sleeping pregnant women and unborn babies.
Seelie. Dryads of mandrake plants. Appear as small children with leaves on their head. Will scream and cry when pulled from the ground.
Unseelie. Male shapeshifting fiend who seeks to have sex with sleeping women.
Unseelie. Shapeshifting fiends whose aim is to cause as much havoc, discord, and mischief as possible.
Seelie. Elementals of water. Merms are humans with fish tails instead of legs. Mermaids are often seen sitting on rocks and combing their hair, singing to lure unsuspecting men closer. Mermen are known for bringing violent storms to sink ships. When captured, they will give humans their knowledge if they can use that to bargain for a release.
Beast. Creatures with the bodies of humans and the heads of cattle.
Seelie. Spirits that grant inspiration in any kind of art.
Unseelie. Women who have the bodies of serpents below their waists. Kill men and children if they can entice them away from their families.
Seelie. Every human has one of these guardian spirit watching out for them. Appear as animals or other familiar creatures. Can be predatory against other humans in order to protect theirs, or after their human's death.
Unseelie. Fiend who preys upon those grieving following the death of a loved one.
Unseelie. Wood imps who enter houses hidden in new wooden items to cross the threshold. Once there, they inflict perpetual sickness on the family.
Seelie. Small old men with long beards who live on anthills.
Seelie. Water elementals who trick humans into dancing with them endlessly on riverbanks and other places near water.
Beast. Occasionally referred to as swamp giants, ogres are large, green-skinned humanoids who live in swamps and bogs.
Seelie. The spirit responsible for all the minor, inexplicable problems in a household. They leave doors ajar, misplace items, steal cakes, and break toys, among other things. Completely invisible to an ordinary human.
Unseelie. Large fiends with horns and odd numbers of eyes. Destructive disease-bringers.
Beast. Flying horses with feathered wings.
Beast. A beautiful pheasant-like bird whose mating ritual involves building a nest of fine spices and harmlessly setting itself ablaze along with the nest. The mate chooses their favorite smelling pyre.
Seelie. Appear as very small humans with insect-like wings, red hair, and pointed ears. While largely not malevolent, they are all mischevous.
Unseelie. Similar to the olsen, these spirits move household objects and are responsible for odd noises in the house at night. Unlike the olsen, they are not simply having fun; these spirits can be quite dangerous when angered.
Unseelie. Shape-shifter who often takes the appearance of a horse to entice children to ride it, which will promptly cause it to leap off a cliff.
Beast. Small, approximately 2-foot long dragons who steal and guard small treasures for their master. Make for an excellent pet and wallet.
Beast. Creatures with the body of a large deer and a single horn. Peaceful creatures who bring good luck and fortune.
Beast. Creatures with the body of a lion, head of a snake, and the legs and feet of a deer with stunning white fur. Makes a sound reminiscent of a pack of dogs baying.
Beast. A giant bird who inhabits pine trees. Lightning shoots out from its wings when it flies.
Unseelie. Elementals of fire. Small lizards with a temperamental, wrathful character.
Beast. Shaggy-furred humanoid who wanders forests.
Seelie. Elementals of animal life. Dwell in the woods and forests. Appears as a human head, arms, and torso with their bottom half looking like the animal they protect.
Seelie. Able to appear as both an elegant, fashionable human or a spider. Helped humans learn how to weave.
Seelie. Elementals of air. Appear as ghostly, tall humans, with a volatile temperament. Able to summon a breeze and a tornado with equal effort.
Seelie. Appear as humans with the wings and beaks of birds. Able to travel vast distances quickly thanks to their ability to fly. Many can be found acting as traveling merchants.
Seelie. Appearing as a human with a horse head and legs, they scare travelers, lead them astray, and play tricks on them such as making them return to an arbitrary path no matter how far they go or turn.
Unseelie. Appears as either a normal, innocent baby, or a bald-headed creature with sharp teeth. Uses the baby disguise to lure passersby closer so the creature can maul them.
Unseelie. Giant, ugly humanoids that inhabit hills and lurk near crossroads to hunt lost humans.
Beast. Horses with a single horn in the middle of their heads. The horn itself is the basis for a wide variety of healing potions.
Seelie. Psychopomps and maidens of battle, they choose who dies in battles and then guide the chosen to the afterlife.
Beast. Undead humanoids with fangs that suck the blood of the living. Anyone killed in this manner also turns into a vampire.
Beast. Aquatic humanoids that appear younger or older depending on the phase of the moon. Quite dangerous to anyone they don't recognize, but they will leave those who frequent their rivers and lakes alone.
Beast. Cursed humanoid creatures who transform into large, bipedal wolves during Full Moons. Tends to prey on strangers and ignore loved ones.
Seelie. Three woman in control of the flow of Fate. The youngest represents the past, the middle sister represents the present, and the oldest represents the future.
Unseelie. A small, glowing ball of fire that leads travelers into ditches, bogs, and disaster.
Seelie. Old women who embody and speak for the mountains.
Beast. Shaggy-furred humanoid who wanders mountains and other snowy areas. Cold weather sasquatches.
Unseelie. Beautiful female spirit of snowstorms. She lures men out into her blizzards, enticing them to search for her until they freeze to death.
