1. The fae will view his magic as a neat trick, almost like how a pet owner would feel about some weird little thing their pet does. A delightful novelty. It's decidedly different from their magic, but it's not feared.

2. Apologies in advance for the lesson, but unfortunately you have hit upon my favorite part of fairy lore: So. In traditional Irish fairy lore, the fae live under burial mounds and use those to go between their world and the human world. In Nordic fairy lore, elves are seen as ancient, wisened dead humans. Basically, the fae have a weird connection to the dead.

Kai would be able to connect to the dead of his world, yes, but his abilities will work similarly to calling a payphone on the side of the street: You might get the correct dead person you're looking for, or some random fairy could pick up the phone instead. Feel free to have some fun with this: Make up an NPC fairy who keeps answering his "phone calls" if you want, have his abilities improve over time as he gets more used to the location if you want.
