Additionally, the depth and the width of the chasm varies every hour, so it's hard to pinpoint an exact measurement. Since the castle is reacting to the court rulers' tension, every sway of their mood, the chasm moves.
2. The further an Adopted goes down, the more dense the darkness becomes, eventually the smell of rotten earth, darkness, and the amounting sense of dread would force them back up.
